We missed the actual anniversary by a day, but the event was important enough to note – even if late.

It was on October 19, 1966 that Bobby Orr played his first NHL game.

The game was played at the Boston Garden and the opponents were the Detroit Red Wings.

Interestingly, the game was also the first game for Peter Mahavolich, reports the Hockey News.

In this interesting article, it is reported that while Orr did not score in the game, he did impress those in attendance – including legendary Boston hockey scribe Tom Fitzgerald.

To many, this writer include, Bobby Orr was the best they ever saw.

And, for us it all started at the game 50 years ago.
