“Americans are desperate to find some large institution where people seem to get up in the morning and do the job that they were hired to do and do it in the right way.”

So opined Retired Army Colonel Andrew Bacevich in a radio interview to John Hockenberry. It is his position that right now those values are best found in the military.

If we’re ever going to achieve that sense of trust in society at large, Bacevich argues, “there has to be that shared sense of basic values. And that doesn’t exist in America today.”
