To almost every Canadian who follows hockey the story is now an old one – the last Canadian team to win the Stanley Cup was the Montreal Canadiens of 1993.

News it is not. Nor is the story that five Canadian teams qualified for the playoffs this year for as soon as the first round is over only two are likely to remain standing – and only one, the Canadiens, are considered to have a shot – and an outside shot at that if Carey Price can carry team past all comers.

Nonetheless, those story lines are, in fact, news elsewhere. For example, here is a segment from National Public Radio in which All Things Considered’s Robert Siegel chatted with CBC correspondent Cameron French, who wrote a story for Reuters. It seems that Reuters story caught the attention of at least one major media outlet on this side of the border.

Here is the Reuters story as well.
