It may be Canada Day, but for those involved in the business of professional hockey and those who report on it, today is no holiday.

Instead, it is the start of hockey’s free agency – that sport’s version of hunting season.

While many are at barbecues, parades, beaches, lakes and fireworks, these executives and media folk are on their phones, computers and other contemporary devices – staying connected and keeping the rest of us informed.

Lots of money to spread around. So let the movements begin.

Actually, it started a few hours ago and many players have moved.

We will especially miss Brandon Prust – a guy who always showed heart and grit, whether for Montreal or before that in New York.

Now, he is off to Vancouver, part of a trade. One Montreal fan will miss him and that character he brought.
