It’s not what it used to be, but it’s still special. And, for the first time in a long time it is competitive.
Montreal Canadiens visit the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Both the Leafs and Canadiens are looking to return to the playoffs after being excluded last year. It’s been along time since either celebrated a Stanley Cup. The last time there was a parade down Ste. Catherine was in 1993. The Leafs, as we are constantly reminded, have not won since 1967 (Toronto spoiled Montreal’s Expo fun on Canada’s centennial). It’s become a long slump.
But it’s still Leafs-Montreal or Canadiens-Toronto, depending on one’s perspective. Not what it used to be. But still more special than playing, say, Nashville, Dallas or Arizona.
Both teams are looking ahead with high hopes. This may be the start of something old that is new again.
