Tom Lysiak may have been the best to have ever played hockey in Atlanta.
Before the Thrashers, Atlanta was home of the Flames. And, the best of the Atlanta Flames was Tom Lysiak.
Tom Lysiak died the other day of lukemia at age 63.
Lysiak was known for his long curly hair, swift skating, and prowess with the puck. He played 13 seasons with the Flames and Chicago Blackhawks, scoring 292 goals with 551 assists in 919 games.
Lysiak joined the Flames for their second season, 1973-74, and he was runner up for rookie of the year. He led the Flames in scoring in each of his five full seasons and served as a team captain before being traded to the Blackhawks midway through the 1978–79 season.
