Congratulations to Martin Brodeur as the New Jersey Devils officially retire his number tonight at the Prudential Center. Those in attendance tonight will include Doc Emrick (emcee),  Lou Lamoriello, Jacques Lemaire, Larry Robinson, Jacques Caron, Scott Niedermayer, Scott Stevens, Ken Daneyko, Gary Bettman, the Brodeur family, and, of course, his longtime New Jersey fans.

Sometimes the term “legend” can be used too loosely. This is not such an instance.

Marty Brodeur has to be an integral part of a discussion of hockey’s all-time greatest goaltenders.

If  there is any discussion, it is who the other contenders are for the title. Who would your list include ? Here are some of mine (with apologies to an oversights): Jacques Plante, Terry Sawchuck, George Vezina, George Hainsworth, Chuck Raynor, Glenn Hall, Johnny Bower, Ken Dryden, Tony Esposito, Dominik Hasek, Vladislav Tretiak, and Patrick Roy.

In the meantime, congrats again to #30, Martin Brodeur.
