The New York Rangers have had a number of beloved figures call their games over the year.
My personal favorites were Win Elliot and Jim Gordon. I am told Marty Glickman (another fav) did some games as well. And, a whole generation grew up listening to Marv Albert, who for many years doubled up as voice of both MSG teams, Rangers and the basketball Knicks.
It is a more recent voice, Sam Rosen, who is being enshrined in the Hockey Hall of Fame as a recipient of the Foster Hewitt Award.
There Riosen will join Sal “Red Light” Messsena as the two New York Ranger honorees.
Rosen first started broadcasting as a sub in the 1970’s, and became full-time in the mid-1980’s, replacing Jim Gordon.
Some thirty years later he is most remembered for calling the Rangers Styanley XCup win in 1994 and for his saying “It’s a power play goal!”.
Congratulations to Sam Rosen on this honor.
