It was not a good night for the home team.

The year was 1965 and Toronto was in town to play Canadiens in the Montreal Forum.

Eddie Shack scored for the visitors just 21 seconds into the game and the Leafs never looked back.

By the end of the evening the Forum faithful were not so faithful. According to this great piece in The Hockey Writer’s “50 Years Ago in Hockey”, they were chanting “Go Leafs Go” in the later stage’s of Toronto’s 6-0 win over their hometown team.

The Leafs, from players to coach Punch Imlach, were amazed. Toe Blake, the Montreal coach, was not amused.

The slump would not continue. Montreal would win its second straight Stanley Cup the mext Spring.

But for this one evening, it was a very different sound and feel in the Forum – “The Night Hab Fans Cheered the Leafs”.
