The good news is that Women’s Porfessional Hockey finally got a moment to celebrate its accomplishment.

The bad news is that it remains a work in progress – unfortunately a vityim of turf battles in the midst of growing pains.

The Boston Pride and Les Canadiennes de Montreal faced off at the Winter Classic near Boston on New Year’s Eve afternoon.

There was an injury. There was no TV or streaming video. And, the game was an abbreviated one – cut short so that the NHL Alumni Game between retired Canadiens and Bruins could start on time for television in the U.S. and Canada.

And, then there are the politics of the women’s game – some of the parties including two women’s leagues, the national organization that oversees the U.S. women’s Olympic program, and others.

Here is an interesting article about it all in today’s paper.

It is sad that folks cannot be on the same page – for the sake of the girls and the game.

Perhaps it is asking too much too soon. Maybe it is enough for now that 2015 will be the year when the women were first allowed to participate in the celebration of North American professional hockey.
